Flight CHC to AKL
to return to the north island (I will return the camper in Christchurch CHC) from the south one, I just booked a flight on the 16th March, 120NZ$, so round 'bout 60eu...much less than the 200 for the ferry ;-) I bet that this low price would be higher if booked not that early. Flight time is 1:20h. Then I will stay the last night in AKL and then the long flights back to Germany on Saturday 17th. Confirmation came by email, booking via creditCard was pretty easy and straight forward on the web

camper gebucht
so, nun habe ich fuer einiges an Geld....grmpf....mir online einen T5 camper gebucht. Echt nicht grad guenstig fuer ueber 50 Tage zur Hauptreisezeit...Start in AKL und Reuck in Christchurch, einmal Faehre, retour muss ich noch den kurzen Flug nach AKL buchen....mal sehen, es werden dann erstmal 200NZ$ Anzahlung und spaeter dann der grosse Rest im Dezember abgebucht...200NZ$ sind ca 100eu. Wenigstens der Umtauschkurs ist einfach *g*

Flug oder Faehre back to AKL?
nach einigem Lesen im LonelyPlanet heute (und dieser daemlichen Steuererklaerung, die auch mal fertig werden musste) habe ich mich dafuer entschieden, nur einmal die Faehre von der Nord- zur Suedinsel zu nehmen, nach den ersten 4 Wochen. Also Annahme des Campers in Auckland und Rueckgabe in Christchurch. Der Flug CC>AKL ist guenstiger als die Faehre und ich spare Sprit und Zeit und 1 Tag WoMoMiete. Also dann bald den zusaetzlichen Flug und Faehre reservieren...
Der T5 ist in der Zeit auch noch zu haben, so dass momentan alles im gruenen Bereich laeuft.

Reisezeit
der Trip wird Mitte Jan bis Mitte Maerz gehen. ca 54 Tage Wohnmobil, denke ich. Bis ca Ende Jan sind in NZ noch Ferien, ich hoffe, dass ich genau zum Ferienende ankomme und es dann wieder "ruhiger" wird, obwohl das wohl nicht das grosse Problem darstellt. Der Februar soll die schoenste Reisezeit sein.

Bestellungen
gestern Nacht habe ich mir bei amazon noch eine Strassenkarte (ich hasse Strassenatlanten) und einen Reisefuehrer bestellt, und gebraucht ("aber wie neu") den obligatorischen Lonely Planet NZ.
Vor einem Monat bin ich ueber "fon" gestolpert, die fuer 5eu (inkl Steuer und Versand dann 17,40eu) einen WLAN AccessPoint unters Volk schmeissen, weltweit. Hintergrund: community Gedanke - stell einen Teil deiner Flatrate andren usern zur Verfuegung und du kannst selbst ueberall auf der Welt an die fon AccessPoints ins Internet. Kann nicht falsch sein, dachte ich. Nur die Installation scheint schwerer als erwartet. Bislang gab es eine Antwort von dem support von fon, auf weiteres warte ich noch. Vielleicht hat mein Geraet auch einfach nur ne' Macke? Abwarten - ist ja noch Zeit bit NZ. fon APs in NZ gibt es jedenfalls ein paar - und wenn nicht im InetCafe, dann kann ich mich auch mal vor so ein Hausstellen und tippen. Gehoert also mit zu den Vorbereitungen.

nein, keine Sorge - ich werde auch mal deutsch tippen, gerade wonach mir der Sinn steht. Es wird hier bunt gemscht zugehen, denke ich. In NZ wird sich wohl nach einiger Zeit eher das Englisch durchsetzen, wenn ich erstmal dort bin.

Die ersten langen Listen nach einem Brainstorming mit altertuemlichen Blatt Papier und Stift sind erfolgreich verlaufen. Denke, einen Grossteil habe ich schon aufgereiht: Auslandskrankenschutz pruefen ob NZ mit drin ist, Reiseapotheke, Stromadapter etc...bin mal gespannt, wie ich den Kram auf 20kg reduziert bekomme. Schon seltsam: 2 Wochen LH nach Denver und man darf 2*20kg mitschleppen, die man nicht braucht - und 2 Monate LH nur 1*20kg. Naja, wird es halt eingegrenzt werden muessen. Und es ist ja Sommer. Aber ich will auch in die Berge - und da kann es kalt werden. Und nass, also schon so einiges an Klamotten. Immerhin hat die nette Dame im callCenter nach einigem Hin und Her mir dann doch noch (ich war ja flexibel mit den Reisedaten, hehe, das hat sie zur Verzweiflung getrieben) eine wohl recht vernueftige Route rausgesucht und nicht darauf bestanden, dass ich ueber FMO > FRA > Wien (!) mit einer UEbernachtung > Sydney > Auckand.. man das waere teuer geworden von den Flughafenkosten...sondern viel einfacher FMO > FRA > SIN > AKL fliegen kann. Gut so. Hinweise: a) bei Praemienfluegen muss man die FlughafenSicherheitsgeb, die FHSteuer, Kerosinzuschlag selbst zahlen. War mir bewusst, deshalb aufpassen, dass man nicht unnoetige Zwischenstopps macht, treibt nur den Preis. Bei meiner Route sind es insgesamt hin und retour dann 320eu. Verglichen zu ca 1600-1800 eu fuer Ottonormalzahler aber gut. Fuer die Differenz kann man in NZ bestimmt mind 1Monat gut auskommen. Das Budget wird eh stark durch die Art des Reisens bestimmt, wobei mit dem Camper bestimmt eine der teureren Varianten ist. Rad und Bus waere guenstiger. Aber so sportlich bin ich nicht mehr *g*. Momentan warte ich auf die email Bestaetigung der LH, dauert wohl was, weil 4 Fluege mit dem StarAlliance Partner SingaporeAirlines gemacht werden, was mir sehr gefaellt, denn die Ausruestung der Flotte ist besser *g* und das Futter auch. Ganz zu schweigen von den Flugbegleiterinnen...aber das ist ein andres Thema...*g*

When I got up to 90k miles early this summer, I the feeling was already born "can i make it this winter time?" "Shall I pay for the rest 10k miles? and go for it?" Then I saw and ad, telling if you invite someone to get the same Miles and More credit card, both parties will receive 10k as a bonus. Great! The yearly fee for the card is much less than paying for the 10k straight. My mother accepted the deal and right after the 10k were on my mileage account, I called M&M to book. Before that, I ensured with my supieriour that I can get two month of (partial unpaid) vacation in ealy 2007 - no problem! good good.
Then: how much are the camper on loan in NZ? hmmm during the summer in NZ (Dec - March) hardly the same as in Germany...well.... 55days...thats a lot of money...! I am driving a VW T4 bus over here...and then I saw that at least two campervan renting companies do have the newer T5 bus in their range...wow, this would be nice, I thought. OK, not the cheapest one, but almost - as its not that large, but totally sufficient for my needs. Bit less are the 4WD cars with the camper cabin on the rear, but hey - this is something one only does once in the lifetime. Right now I am in the process to loan one of them, collecting quotations from different companies over the internet. I will also compare these quotations to at least one of a local flight and vacation agency oover here in town, but I would assume that a direct loan might be bit cheaper, as there are no middlemen in the queue. We will see.

...why New Zealand?
well, approx 20 years ago in school, a friend of mine did an exchange to Hamilton in NZ. We wrote some letters (remember that time? paper ! made of blue light paper so that the airfreight wouldn't be that high?) and one need to concentrate, not to waste too much of this expensive paper...how sad the letters looked when one needed to scratch things out and rewrite. How much easier it is now...well...
To make long things short. When she returned past one year, I did not only felt in love with her, but also with the pictures she took in NZ, and her stories about the beauty of the country. My first contact with NZ.
Past school, and after the military service, I ordered information on studying physics in NZ. All the papers looks so good - besides the fact that the university fees where so high for foreign people....too high for me or my parents...sad.
So I studied physics over here in Germany and got early involed with a company doing Software for image analysis on electron microscopes. Well, that was luck 'cause I could fincance my studies on my own from that. Building up the very first website for them in 1993 and doing more and more work leads to the fact that my days in the university were bit more than usual...but it was fine. Right past my diploma thesis (about tomography on a scanning electron microscope) my part time job became a full timer. Over the last 14 years that I am now working with the same company, we increased stuff from like 16 to over 160.
So my work also changed nearly every 2 to 4 years and never became boring.
But my thoughts on NZ never died...but how to afford the time and money for a longer stay in NZ? It needs some financial management to put every month bit to the side until one reaches the goal: a loan of a nice campervan for around two months and travelling both islands.
During my job I flew bit to the States, South Africa and Malaysia. That also gave me the chance to collect miles...then Lufthansa came out with a wonderful idea, I think 2 years ago: a credit card on which one can collect one mile per euro spent plus the bonus that all collected miles will never be deleted past 3 years. And so, finally, I reached the limit of 100.000 miles to fly to the farest destination in their list. Great!
